Sandeep Bhagwati
Sandeep Bhagwati is composer, poet, researcher, festival director, and ensemble leader working between Montréal, Berlin, and Pune. Former Professor of Composition (Musikhochschule Karlsruhe, 2000–03) and Canada Research Chair in Inter-X Art (Concordia University, 2006–16), he founded matralab, a hub for research-creation (artistic research) in live arts. His work investigates comprovisation, trans-traditional musicking, situational and digital scores, creative AI, and heterophonic temporalities. Former Scientific Director of Hexagram Concordia (2009–11), he has published widely on artistic research, decolonisation in new music, and transtraditional aesthetics. Bhagwati directs Śabdagatitāra (Berlin) and Sangeet Prayog (Pune), co-edits TURBA – Journal for Global Practices in Live Arts Curation, and in 2023/24 was honoured in Quebec with a Homage Season dedicated to his music.
