Speaker
Xinhang Wei
Xinhang (Elsa) Wei is an artist and researcher working across performance, material inquiry, and artistic research. She completed her BFA at the University of British Columbia and is currently studying in the MFA Arts and Humanities programme at the Royal College of Art, UK. Her work explores migration, code-switching, and language as embodied and structural processes, with a focus on how linguistic adaptation reshapes bodily habits, gesture, and perception. Drawing from her experience moving between China, Singapore, Canada, and the UK, her practice examines unreadability, tuning, and continual adjustment as modes of articulation. She is interested in questions of cultural translation, non-dominant language systems, and the relationship between bodily labour and communication, and is currently developing research that connects artistic practice with intercultural learning and language negotiation.
